NewCold opens €70 million automated cold storage facility in Ferentino, Italy

PressOctober 20, 2026

Ferentino, Italy – 20 October 2026 – NewCold, a global leader in advanced food logistics, today officially opened its new automated cold storage facility in Ferentino, Lazio. The project represents a €70 million investment in next generation cold chain infrastructure, supporting growth, efficiency, and resilience across the Italian food industry. It offers 62,000 pallet positions and includes a dedicated tunnel connecting the warehouse directly to the customer’s adjacent production facility, a first of its kind solution in the Italian market.

Located in Central Italy, the facility extends NewCold’s network beyond the north of the country and brings advanced cold chain services closer to food producers and consumers across Central and Southern Italy. Its automated design enables efficient, energy conscious operations and a seamless flow of products from manufacturing through storage and distribution.

Bram Hage, Founder and CEO of NewCold, reflected on the partnership behind the facility: “Ferentino reflects the strength of a long standing partnership built on shared ambition and trust. By investing together in innovation, operational excellence, and responsible growth, we have created a facility that will serve our customer reliably and efficiently for many years to come.”

A delegation from NewCold joined national and local government officials, business partners, customers, and members of the community to mark the opening.

“The opening of the new Ferentino facility marks another step forward in the strategic partnership that has connected Froneri and NewCold for more than ten years,” said Pietro Monaco, Group COO of Froneri. “Over time, we have built a strong and successful collaboration across numerous markets worldwide, from Europe and the Americas to Australia. This investment strengthens a relationship that continues to evolve and create value, laying the foundations to support the future growth ambitions of both companies through increasingly innovative and efficient solutions.”

“The new logistics hub in Ferentino represents a strategic investment in Froneri’s future in Italy,” said Quirino Cipollone, CEO of Froneri Italia. “This facility strengthens our distribution capabilities and enables us to support the growth of the ice cream market in the country even more effectively. Thanks to a state of the art logistics model, we will be able to provide our customers and partners with increasingly high levels of service, while also improving flexibility, efficiency, and competitiveness.”

Jonas Swarttouw, NewCold Managing Director Europe, placed the investment in the context of NewCold’s European network: “In Ferentino we expand our partnership with Froneri and add an important location to both our Italian and European network at the same time. The warehouse is a text book example of supply chain efficiency, though fully automated connection of production, automated storage, retrieval and loading. Being an integral part of our European network it offers integrated end-to-end solutions for distribution in European and Italian markets.”

Luca Quaresima, Country Manager Italy, NewCold, highlighted the facility’s significance for customers and the local community: “Today’s opening is the result of outstanding teamwork over the past several years. Ferentino brings our logistics model closer to customers across Central and Southern Italy while creating new opportunities in the region. We are grateful for the support of our partners, local institutions, and the Ferentino community, and we look forward to becoming a valued long term partner in the area.”

The project is expected to create approximately 150 to 200 jobs, supporting the long term economic development of the region. Following the successful start of operations earlier this year, the facility also provides capacity for future customer growth in Italy. NewCold plans to double its pallet capacity in Italy by 2030. Its highly efficient design and advanced technology help reduce energy consumption while improving supply chain performance.
